Leyton Orient 1st Team Goal Keeping Coach, Simon Royce, Comes To Writtle

Leyton Orient FC's First Team goal keeping coach, Simon Royce, came down to Writtle on Tuesday 27th September to do some specific training with our two male academy goal keepers!

Matthew Huggins and Hayden Orr are part of our Male Football Academy for under 19's in partnership with Leyton Orient FC. Yesterday saw the boys have a specific goal keeping coaching session by the O's very own first team goalie coach, Simon Royce!

The boys were put through various drills working on agility as a goal keeper, collapse dives and more, thoroughly enjoying the time they spent with Simon. Matthew said, "It was so great meeting a guy that I've seen play at the highest level and to be able to receive coaching from him! Hayden and I want to thank the Leyton Orient FC coaches, Colin and Liv, and the club for getting Simon down."

Simon said, "as an integral part of the first team coaching staff, I felt it important to build a relationship between us and the college programme, to show the students what we do at a professional level and inspire them." He went on to say that "the coaches do an amazing job and us as a club must support the academy programmes as much as we can because we may well find the next Lawrence Vigouroux, George Moncur or Kelly Smith!"

The male academy programme started for the first time this year, and has already had huge support from Leyton Orient FC. The Director of Football for Leyton Orient FC, Martin Ling, is heavily involved with both academy programmes, and sees that our students are provided with high level coaching and exceptional work experience opportunities within the club. Each year we work with Leyton Orient FC, the programmes grow and more opportunities for the students flourish!

Want to be a part of it? We are hosting a taster session on Monday 24th October for our male and female academy programmes. If you would like more information and to book on, please contact our Sport Development Manager, Amy, here.
